Air Travel Strikes Again
It’s finally happened. I’ve fallen victim to shitty airline traveling. But I can’t really point the finger at an airline. THE AIRPORT fucked up. The trams taking people to the D gates were broken.
They started telling people to leave and go to terminal 3, but then what? No one knew where to go so some of us were hesitant to just leave:
They said the trams were coming back on soon and repacked us all in the waiting area. 15 min of waiting goes by and then they just start announcing everyone go to gate C25. For what?? An Uber pool style plane? Anyone with a flight out of gate D just hops on the same plane and we drop people off along the way across the country? Nope, gonna start loading thousands of people onto shuttles. Anyone who didn’t get there 3 hours early doesn’t stand a chance:
Needless to say, I left the airport and went straight home. I’m lucky enough that this was just a random vacation to go stay at home with my mom. No extra bookings or hotel reservations involved.
My only losses? My bag is still on the way to Chicago, so I’ll have to wait for them to fly it back and go pick it up. And the $100 in Uber to and from. I did get to ride in a Tesla for the first time ever on the Uber home, so I guess you can consider it worth it.
I used flight credits for my trip today on American, so it’s really up to them how we proceed. If they do choose to screw me and not help me out, I’ll just simply fly Spirit and Frontier again. (I have since talked to American and they canceled my flight and refunded my miles, no problem. My loyalty grew a bit stronger to American today.)
I’m laughing this one off, as I had no commitments or anywhere to be. But I imagine plenty of people who missed their flight today are not laughing and writing a blog about it. Prayers to them.
I should have never even been in this situation in the 1st place, so maybe American is still partially to blame. I did mention that this could get ugly fast, and boy did it.
