This Rigged Putt Would Have Cost Gordon Sargent $40k
The US Open just did not live up to the hype this year. It is quite possibly because they limited the amount of true FANS that could be in attendance. Honestly embarrassing and a crime to limit the GA tickets so much.
Nothing was worse than this putt, that 99.9 out of 100 times goes in, bounce off the back of the cup right back towards Sargent. This was not a putt that was hit too hard. This putt deserved to go in, and would have costed this young golfer roughly $40 THOUSAND. Since he finished +4 instead of +3, the winnings would have went from about $105,750 to $63,250. Since he is an amateur, he does not qualify for any winnings, but just the thought of missing out on this much money is painful.
It is not like he was going to win or anything, the last time an amateur won the US Open was in 1933. But this one hurts more than most. Maybe not because of a potential dollar amount loss, but because he was ROBBED.
