Why Empaths Prefer Comedies Over Other Genres
I’ll start by saying this blog includes 0 research and is purely based on personal experience and feelings. Let’s keep it simple and first define what an Empath is. An Empath is a person with the paranormal ability to apprehend the mental or emotional state of another individual. “Putting yourself in someone else’s shoes” times a million with little to no control over having these feelings. I have no comparison to how other Empaths feel, and have no diagnosis (not sure there even is one), but would classify myself as an Empath and for the sake of this blog will refer to myself as one. If you too believe you are an Empath and would like to discuss personal experiences further, I am more than happy to have these conversations!
Controlling emotions is what I would consider the most difficult part of being an Empath. As an empath, I would love to solve every problem for every individual in the entire universe. The tough realization is that this is not possible. No one person can solve the world’s problems, and that realization tends to weigh on us very heavy. Seeing bad things happen in the world makes me feel like a failure and that I have not done enough to impact and shape our society. I also understand that this is insane and that I truly do whatever I can to better the lives of any and everyone that I possibly can.
Watching any shows or movies outside of Comedy sometimes makes me feel too much. My logic understands and knows this is not reality, but my emotional side still tends to feel for these characters. How can you feel bad for a made up situation? I wish I truly knew, but in my mind, it associates these fake situations with the real world situations. Even though I know that speicific character is just an actor in a scripted show, associating this situation and/or feelings to the real world and real life situations is inevitable. Watching shows that have betrayal, heartbreak, murder, etc can be draining to watch. Every breakup brings me back to my past relationships. Every betrayal reminds me of the emptiness that some people feel when they feel like they have nobody in their corner anymore. Every murder makes me feel the pain of someone losing their loved one or a friend and brings up feelings of loss that I have experienced.
So why do I mainly watch comedies with no real meaning or comparisons to life? Sometimes that is all my mind and body can truly handle. Some people feel more than others and that is nothing to be ashamed of. These emotions can leak into other aspects in your life and have an impact as well. When you start to understand yourself and ignore what society thinks, you will truly begin to grow and take the steps necessary to improving your life and the lives around you.
