Top 5 Pizza Toppings
There are few toppings that DON’T belong on top of pizza. Yes, one of them is pineapple. I honestly could care less if you eat pineapple on your pizza, but it will not be making my top 5, and I have never been a fan of warm pineapple. The one controversial miss that I assume will be on most other people’s lists is mushrooms. I’ll pick them off, or if they’re small enough, just eat them on the pizza. But I am not a fan of mushrooms in any form, and will gladly take all the heat that comes with that preference.
Pepperoni - Above all else is pepperoni. Pepperoni can be the only topping on a pizza and be amazing, or simply be 1 of the many and be the perfect compliment. Pepperoni is also one of the few toppings that is mainly used on pizza. I rarely eat pepperoni unless it is on a pizza. I do not even think there is a debate, pepperoni is the undebatable number 1 pizza topping.
Sausage - Another meat topping that can make a pizza good on its own is sausage. I grew up mainly eating sausage pizza and it will forever hold a special place in my heart. If the sausage is done right, I could almost put sausage #1 above pepperoni, but I have found that pepperoni is a bit more consistent.
Green Peppers - The next topping that I love is green peppers. However, this is the first topping on my list that can not stand alone. This is a compliment to either the pepperoni or the sausage pizza. I will SOMETIMES eat a veggie supreme, but 99% of the time am adding peppers to a pepperoni or sausage pizza.
Black Olives - It baffles me that people call black olives “too salty” and then turn around and trash people who don’t add enough salt to their food when cooking. I will always love some black olives added on top of a pizza, but once again, would not ever order olives on a standalone pizza.
Onions - Last but not least, onions. I do think there is a such thing as “too many onions,” but just the right amount of onions on pizza is a game changer. I generally do not like onions on just a veggie pizza, but adding some onions to a pepperoni or sausage pizza can make all the difference.
I do not have many honorable mentions for this one and am not the biggest fan of chicken or bacon on pizza. I will definitely eat them, but would never order these myself. The only other toppings that I regularly get that did not make the top 5 are jalapenos or tomatoes. These are good additions to the toppings already mentioned, but could never stand alone and are never the difference maker.
