How Growing Out My Hair Started It All

Sometimes in life, things are much deeper than they could ever appear on the surface. Growing out my hair is one of them. I have always wanted long hair (at least once in my life), but always got annoyed at those awkward stages of it being long enough that it was miserable in the summer, but not long enough to put in a headband. Summer would come around and I would resort to the buzz cut like always. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good buzz cut and it is freeing to have no hair. But having long hair was something I always wanted, I was just unable/unwilling to commit long enough to get through the annoying phases.

I started to learn and realize that with anything in life, the journey is not going to be easy, and some parts of the journey are going to suck. But if you keep your eyes on the end goal, it all slowly becomes worth it. Committing to growing out my hair is such a minuscule thing in the grand scheme of life, but it didn’t have to be. It ended up being how I lived in all aspects of my life, so quick and willing to give up and shave my hair at the slightest inconvenience. The same way I would give up on blogging, creating videos, chasing careers, etc. I became so quick to resort to what felt comfortable, ultimately ruining the end goal, and preventing me from ever achieving what I truly wanted.

Today, I get to look in the mirror every single day and realize that I am glad I suffered through the uncomfortable stages. And I now get to use something as simple as my hair, as a reminder that if I want to stand in the mirror in 5 years and be proud of where I am, I have to embrace the journey and the struggles. So never let someone tell you “It’s not that serious.” Because to them, it might be. But to you, it could be the reason you were able to shift your entire mindset and attitude towards life.
